Objective:
​To leverage a captive audience of target users to create marketable content to utilize for their product launch
Sony’s new camera phone device, the Xperia 1, is set to ship in July 2019.
Sony will provide 25 phones to be used by Academy of Art University students in a video competition during the 2019 summer session.
Open and offered only to students of Academy of Art University (San Francisco, CA) holding a valid 2019 student ID, this is a skill contest (“Contest”) in which a combination of judging and public voting will be used to determine participation and then overall winners.
The company’s US market research firm R3CESS plans to follow the students with its own crew, recording a “making of” documentary for promotional purposes.

Objective:
To position itself as an institution with opportunities in a wide range of industries directly tied to career pathing for students.

Methodology
The Contest will be conducted in two (2) Phases: An Application Phase after which Semi-Finalists will be determined followed by a Video Submission Phase for the Semi-Finalists. Overall winners will be announced at the Xperia Film Festival event at San Francisco’s Union Square on August 14, 2019​

Application Requirements
A video (no more than 1 minute in length) reflecting the entrant’s creativity on any subject
and a biographical essay (no more than 200 words in length) about the entrant
Each Application will, for each of the below-described criteria, be scored by the judging panel with a raw score between 1-5.
Selection Criteria:
Creativity – 50%
Quality of composition – 25%
Overall appeal – 25%
Contest Rules:
The top 25 entries move on to the next phase of the competition: shooting the short film. Semifinalists submitted a concept showcasing a creative interpretation of one of the following words:

Kando, Joy, or Wonder.
Each entry must not exceed 5 minutes in presentation, and must be shot with the XPERIA1. Units were provided on loan to the participating students for the competition.

Prizes
Semifinalist submissions will be featured at the Xperia Film Festival event where the top three (3) winners will be announced.

One (1) Grand Prize winner will receive a check for $10,000.

One (1) First Place winner will receive check for $2,500.

One (1) Second Place winner will receive a check for $1,000.
